# MCP Client

Connect external MCP servers to Aisera and make their tools available as fulfillment sources in your AiseraGPT applications

## MCP servers

Connect external tools to Aisera using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Registered MCP tools become available as fulfillment sources in your AiseraGPT applications, allowing the bot/application to call those tools when resolving user queries.

## How it works

When a user sends a query to an AiseraGPT application, the Aisera Platform evaluates all available fulfillment sources to determine which one best satisfies the query. If an MCP tool is registered to that application and its description matches the query, the bot/application calls the tool, interprets the result, and returns a conversational response to the user.

The description attached to each tool drives how well the bot/application matches it to incoming queries.

MCP tools work across all supported channels, including Webchat, CoPilot, Slack, and WebEx.

## Authentication model

The Aisera Platform connects to MCP servers using a service account model. A single shared credential is used for all requests from your tenant, with no per-user authentication or token delegation to the upstream server. Select the authentication type that matches what your MCP server supports and the sensitivity of the data it exposes.

## Setup overview

Connecting an MCP server and making its tools available in an application involves three stages:

1. **Register the MCP server:** Connect to the server, authenticate, select which tools to allow for your tenant, and configure sync behavior. Register servers at **Settings > MCP Servers**.
2. **Add tools to an AiseraGPT application:** From the AiseraGPT details page, select which registered tools to make available as fulfillment sources for that application.
3. **Configure fulfillment priority:** In the AiseraGPT advanced settings, control which fulfillment types are active and set the order in which the bot/application evaluates them.
