# Set Variable

The Set Variable node is used to assign values and set a parameter name so those values can be used wherever they are required in a workflow.

The screenshot above shows the user declaring a ticket id variable within a ‘View tickets’ workflow. In this scenario, the user knows the ticket ID before this step and that ID is passed as a variable name called `theticketId`.
